Gaffield, one of the early settlers in this vicinity. When she came to Castleton, the village consisted of some three or four log houses, the surrounding country being all woods. She was born in Hopkington, St. Lawrence Co., N.Y., and when eight years of age came to this country with her father the late Eben Wright and family. The remainder of her life was spent in this district. She was first married to Oliver Pettit and left a widow at the age of 23 with two sons, one dying in childhood, the other now living in Lake Geneva, Wisc., who was with her for a time during her last sickness. From her second marriage with Nathaniel Gaffield; who predeceased her some six years ago, there was born four sons only one of whom survived her. ...
