Elijah Brundages's wife was Sarah Pamela Richmond, a sister of Phebe and Amelia Richmond, married to Jonah and Edmond Thorne, respectively. Matilda Brundage, daughter of Elijah and Sarah, married John Vanslyke. - Married Name: after 1835; Thorne
- Note*: circa 1845; Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Canada West; Elijah Brundage (1800-1870) was in the Hilton area but moved to Lake Co., Indiana, as early as 1845. He is lower on the same page in the 1850 census with Jonah Thorne and John Vanslyke, all from the same area. Elijah Brundages's wife was Sarah Pamela Richmond, a sister of Phebe and Amelia Richmond, married to Jonah and Edmond Thorne, respectively. Matilda Brundage, daughter of Elijah and Sarah, married John Vanslyke. This is a good example of how pioneer families travelled in groups for support and protection in those days when more and better land was far away, in another country. (Dan Buchanan, Apr 9 2020)8

- Note: 21 April 1852; The Breakaway, Hilton, Northumberland Co., Canada West; On April 21, 1852, several days of heavy rain along with spring snowmelt caused a gravel bank to give way on the small lake north-west of Hilton. The water cascaded down the narrrow valley, following the creek to the north-east, all the way to Cole Creek and eventually the Trent River. Lewis Shearer's saw mill in the valley north of Hilton was destroyed, killing Mr. Shearer and a helper, Jacob Herrington. This event is known in local parlance as "The Breakaway". The Stephens brothers, Alva and Daniel, had recently obtained parts of the south half of lot 5 from their father Richard, so, all of a sudden, their lake was gone. They sold to John Philp soon after. Next east on the creek was Edmund Thorne who had brought his family to Conc 5, Lot 2 only a couple of years before. (Dan Buchanan, July 14 2021)

- Note*: 21 April 1852; The Breakaway, Hilton, Northumberland Co., Canada West; The Breakaway was a major event that happened April 21, 1852 when a small glacial lake north-west of Hilton broke through the gravel bank that was acting as a dam, allowing the whole contents of the lake to gush down the creek. Two men were killed at a saw mill a mile or so to the east and a major part of the Percy Road was damaged because it ran over the gravel bank. The fatalities were Lewis Shearer, owner of the mill that was destroyed, and Jacob Herrington, a neighbour who happened to be helping him that night. There has been a lack of information regarding the second fatality, always recorded as a Herrington, but with no given name. In light of the best info available, I felt it may have been John C. Herrington. After info re this was on www.treesbydan.com for a few years, a researcher in New York state sent me the image of a memorial of John C. Herrington and wife Louisa Richmond in Lapeer County, Michigan. Further research shows that they went to the Rochester area in 1868 and then later to Michigan. Further research shows that it was John's brother, Jacob Herrington who died in the Breakaway. (Dan Buchanan, Nov 23 2021)

- Note*: before 1851; "For some reason, that I can't explain yet, James Henry Holland left his family sometime before the 1851 census and came to Michigan. Even more puzzling is the fact on the 1851 census Abigail and the children are living with a Thomas Morris and their is a child, Amarandah Morris listed as 2 years old. It wasn't until I found Abigail's will that I learned Amarandah was her daughter and Thomas Morris is listed as the father on Amarandah's marriage to John Palen. Indeed, Icahabod, her son, even lists Amarandah as his sister in his will. It is strange that Abigail never married Thomas Morris and he disappears after that census." per email sent with Descendants of Joseph W. Holland, sent by Linda Hart, March 17, 2002.
