- Residence: 22 May 1896; Conc 3 Lot 36, Brighton Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario; Land Registry Records (Grant 6104) show that William Wade and Robert J. Wade purchased 110 acres in the north 1/2 of Lot 36, Conc 3, Brighton Twp., from " Levi B. Shearer, Margaret Bleu, Rebecca Alvira Wilmot, Catherine L. Jamieson, Orilla Typheus Owens (children of Lewis & Sarah Shearer, deceased) Sarah Ann Harris, Margaret Hunter, William Carty, Robert Carty, James Carty, Ellen Higgins, Henry Carty (grandchildren of late Lewis & Sarah Shearer) & the only surviving children of the late Mary Ann Carty, formerly Shearer by Levi B. Shearer their attorney." ITS Date: May 22 1869 (Ontario Land Registry Records from Onland)
Note: This north half of lot 36, Conc 3 is labelled in the 1878 Belden County Atlas Map as "Shearer Est." which means that it had been owned by Lewis Shearer, one of two man who died in The Breakaway on April 21 1852. At the far northwest corner of this lot, the creek crossed his property for a few hundred yards, and that is where he built a saw mill, operating it during the lumbering boom on the 1840s, until it was destroyed by the tsunami of water that rushed down the narrow valley from the west, after the gravel bank broke loose because of so much water due to heavy rain and melting snow. His wife, Sarah Louise (Morrow) passed the land to her children and this list includes some of their children as well as those of Mary Ann (Shearer) Carty, Lewis and Sarah's oldest child. Mary Ann Shearer had married William Carty and lived in Michigan. Levi B. Shearer, the lawyer, was another one of Lewis and Sarah's children.6
