This is the only Cramahe census record to mention his name, although their father, Nehemiah, is shown to be in Cramahe according to 1807 and 1809 census records.³

  Note: We might see this as a process that took several years to develop a homestead in Rawdon. The family was probably in the area of Ernestown Twp. for a few years in mid- to late 1790s, coming to Cramahe Twp. before 1807 when both Nehemiah and Elijah appear in Cramahe census records. They may have gone up to Rawdon in the summer for a few years to build a cabin and clear some land, in preparation for the family moving there. The Patent for the land in 1823 is a formality; they were obviously living there well before that. However, how long some of them stayed in Cramahe and when they moved north permanently is uncertain.
