Catherine walked alo ng with her sister, Eleanor Davidson Wiley and her husband, John N. Wil ey to their new land in the early cold spring of 1833, across what was des cribed as the "mud flats". Eleanor's obituary describes the details of t he treck across Ontario to their new land. The two women would set on stu mps and cry over the hardships while the husbands would encourage their wi ves to keep going. Both Catherine and Eleanor carried a small child the e ntire distance, in bitter winter cold, without shelter. The two famili es settled near what is now known as Wiley's Corner, several miles we st of the village of Adelaide on highway 22, in Middlesex County, Ontari o.
