Asa Richardson1
M, #41178, b. circa 1734
- Birth*: circa 1734; "Charles is referring to his mother, Tamar Richardson. Tamar was the daughter of William Richardson and Jane Schermerhorn and they were indeed from the Mohawk Valley. William's father, Asa, and Jane's father were both acting as spies for the British and were forced out about 1881 or 2 (I have the documentation). They were quite destitute and settled early on in the Quinte area. I checked way back and there is no connection between the two Richardson families." per email from Wilson Brown, Mar 15, 2007.per GEDCOM of Rosalie Kimmerly, Mar 15, 2005.
Date c. 1734 per GEDCOM of Richard Lander, Mar 16, 2007.1 - Marriage*: before 1764; per GEDCOM of Rosalie Kimmerly, Mar 15, 2005.; Principal=Tamara Brownson
- Note*: circa 1783; "From Woburn, the Richardson family migrated to Wlllington, Tolland County Connecticut and we next see them in New Milford Connecticut where Asa Richardson married Tamar Brownson daughter of Samuel Brownson who was one of the founders of the Kingsbury Patent in adjoining New York State close to Lake George. Asa Richardson had property here which was confiscated by the Patriots and he took part in General Burgoyne's battle at Skeensboro in 1777, where he might have been wounded and was held prisoner until 1780 when he escaped to Canada and joined James Jessups Rangers until 1783 when they were disbanded. Earlier he had taken part in The French Indian War which must have occured near his land on Wood Creek at the southern end of Lake Champlain.
Asa was with Burgoyne at Skeensboro confined to Jail released on bond July 21 1779 bail by brother in law Samuel Sherwood. said tobe a militia captain and received pension came to Canada in Oct 1780 at St Johns Quebec without family who arrived in 1781 had land in Kingsbury Wood Creek which was on Burgoyne's line of March south mentioned in dispatches ..served with James Jessups loyalist battalion Rangers until 1783. in jail 1777 -1779 21 acres bought from Copel Wood Creek. I have wondered why Asa decided to fight on the Loyalist side during the Revolutionary War since hundreds of the Richardson Clan in New England responded to the Patriot call to arms at Lexington and Concord and some may have been killed there. The answer seems to lie in his kinship with the Brownson family through marriage since Samuel Brownson settled near his land at Fredericksburgh on the Bay of Quinte. More research is required to determine if this is a correct assumption or merely coincidental." per GEDCOM of Richard Lander, Mar 16, 2007.
