    Note: An example of "squatters" would be Alexander Chisholm who built mills on the creek where Spring Valley is now. He came in expecting to get the Crown Reserve granted to him but his wife Nancy and step-son John Singleton did not own the land until the 1820's.5

    Note: Some of these details do not match the documents. John Singleton's wife was Margaret Canniff and they lived at Conc B, Lot 35, Murray Township which was the eventual east side of the village of Brighton. They do not appear in the Cramahe census records at all. Abraham was a son of John Singleton and they farmed in the said lot at Brighton.
