Along with the Fairfields and the Finkles, the Davys were prominent in the commercial life of the village. John Davy of Little Falls, New York, arrived in 1784 and three years later married Sophia Hoffnagel. John Davy's Crown grant consists of all of lot 10 in the first concession of Ernestown. In his will he bequeathed this and other parcels of land to his sons and divided his other goods and chattels among Sophia and his daughters. John and Sophia's eldest son, Peter, was a farmer, shipbuilder, merchant and tavern keeper. In 1819 Peter built a handsome house, neo-classical in style, on the north side of Academy Street.
