  Note: All my info shows John Paxton to be the eldest son of Lieut. Thomas Paxton and at this time was 12 years old. This might seem young for an apprenticeship but the British Navy took boys this young as a matter of tradition and need. In this case, it does not seem to have been approved. He was married to Miss Sarah Bond January 13, 1843 in Monroe. They had nine children, of which six were living at the time of his death. His funeral was largely attended at St. Mary's Church.
