For him there was to be no future; he became ill on the voyage over and died at Kingston. He was buried among the other fourteen hundred victims of typhus on the site of the General Hospital. In 1966 the remains were reinterred in Kingston's St. Mary's Cemetery. Peggy Reid and her family were left destitute.
