Alva B. Taft, veteran of fifty years as a blacksmith, has probably shod his last horse, but he declines to lay down his tools. His forge, anvil and other equipment have been transferred from his former shop to a compact workshop in the rear of his private garage. Mr. Taft began his apprenticeship in 1908 at his native Carrying Place. Two years later he came to Brighton to work for the late James McCracken, in a shop located on the corner of Prince Edward and Park Street, site of the garage formerly operated by Sam Swain, and now owned by Spencer's Dairy.
