- Note*: November 1877; Conc 2 Lot 36, Brighton Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario; "In 1818, this property was part of a land agent to Moses McPherson. The section where this house stands came into the possession of Alfred A. Becker in November, 1877. The Northumberland-Durham County Atlas shows him as Postmaster and General Dealer at Hilton and also as the owner of 113 acres, lot 36, conc 2 in Brighton Township. In 1892, Burton C. H. Becker, the next owner, conveyed a strip of land between the 2nd and 3rd concessions for a road allowance to the Township of Brighton. This is the road that still passes from Hilton through to the third concession road. The property was transferred by a grant from Burton C. H. Becker to Alfred A. Becker, and the house, a red brick, two-storey structure was probably built by A. A. Becker in 1890.
G. W. Harnden acquired title to 64 ½ acres, part of Lot 1 in the 4th Concession of Brighton Township in 1917 from Albert A. Wade. He also purchased 113 acres from James Lyons Biggar in 1914. In 1927, this property was willed to Frank Harnden, son of G. W. Harnden, and in 1938, Eva Harnden left the property to Gladys Harnden in her will. Roy & Dean Chatten became the new owners in 1944. By this time, the farm comprised 265 acres. The big barn on the hill top had been built by Frank Harnden in 1926." Chatten Family Album, Dec 6 2017.

- Occupation: 12 January 1921; Nesbitt Block, Brighton, Northumberland Co., Ontario; "January 12, 1921 - The most destructive fire in the history of Brighton destroyed a large portion of the heart of the town early Wednesday. The fire discovered about 4 o'clock in the morning and by that time two central blocks in the town had been completely gutted. ... The destroyed blocks are the Nesbitt Block owned by Mr. S.G.M. (Sam) Nesbitt, of Brighton and the Sanford building, of which Mrs. T.D. Sanford and Mrs. C.M. Sanford are the owners. Both buildings are on the south side of Main Street. The loss on these properties with their contents is estimated at $250,000 of which perhaps half is covered by insurance.
The places destroyed were: The Central Hotel, The Bank of Commerce, Bullock's Grocery, Robinson's Restaurant and Pool Room, Marshall's Drug Store, G.N.W. Telegraph Office, Sanford's Grocery Store and Millenary." " from page 268 & 269 of History of Brighton Businesses by Susan Brose.12 - Occupation: February 1921; Main St., Brighton, Northumberland Co., Ontario; "February - A few changes have occurred since the big fire on Main Streel. Mr. A.D. Bullock promptly bought out Mr. J.J. LaTour and incidentally the premises now occupied by Mr. A.O. Bullock are the same that his father Mr. D. Bullock before Brighton 's big fire 30 years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Sanford are located in the Sanford block, corner of Young and Dundas streets, where Mr. LaFay had his shop. Mr. La Fay very obligingly moved his stock out to let Mr. Sanford in. The Hydro Electric staff is quite comfortably situated upstairs over G.H. Roblin's hardware store. Marshall and Dingman are giving their customers the same close shaves across the road in the Tire Hospital. The Bank of Commerce were fortunate in securing Butler's fine show rooms, which, while they may not be fitted with the necessary cages, etc., required for banking are handy and substantial. Mr. Robert Ross grocery is running along as usual. McMaster's hardware store and Frise dry goods store, also Brighton Whitewear Co., will be open for business in their same old stands again." from page 269 of History of Brighton Businesses by Susan Brose.12 - Occupation: April 1921; 5 Main St., Brighton, Northumberland Co., Ontario; "April - Fred Marshall has purchased the Jewellery and Fancy Goods stand of W.W.
