Fishing was his passion, and while he referred to himself as an expert fisherman, he will be best remembered for his fish stories. He was a life-long resident of Trenton – it was in his blood, proudly proclaiming it the “Centre of the Universe”; however, for his family, John was the centre of the universe. A generous donor of both his money and time to many local causes including TMH Foundation, United Way, and Rotary International. No cause ever failed with John leading ticket sales. John was a former member of the boards of the National Air Force Museum, King Street United Church, Trenton Parks and Recreation Board, and past Chair of the United Way Trenton. John was a proud Rotarian, a past president, a Paul Harris Fellow and assisted in the Rotary São Paulo limb clinic. He was an honorary member of the Canadian ski patrol, a member of the Monarchist League, a Mason and a Shriner. He was the inaugural President of the Young Presidents Club of ITWAL. He was a recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and Platinum Jubilee pin. Dad was a proud Canadian and a life long Tory. Dad had ethics and integrity before they were fashionable. He was a Camp Onondaga alumni. He loved people – friends, family, strangers - and he always wanted to know where they were from. He was incredibly proud of his family for accomplishments big and small and would brag to any who would listen. John’s perfect day would end with a sunset in either Barbados or Presqu’ile watching for the green flash. A celebration of life will be held next summer.
