Nathan Flint1
M, b. circa 1730
Nathan Flint was born circa 1730.1 He lived in 1778 at Brandon, Orange Co., Vermont, U.S.A; "The Flint family pilgrimage to Quebec ground to a halt in the newly declared Republic of Vermont, twenty-four kilometers east of Lake Champlain, near the village of Brandon.3 The upstart Republic of Vermont had been carved out of lands long coveted by both New Hampshire and New York with the drafting of the Westminster Conventions.4 Like its heroes, Ethan Allen and the "Green Mountain Boys," Vermont was fiercely independent and although it wasn't British North America, it was as close as Nathan Flint would come to the Loyalist settlements." from "BILLA FLINT, King of Hastings County" by Armand P. La Barge, Kirby Books, 2015, pg. 12.1 He lived in 1778 at Skungamug River, Connecticut, U.S.A; "Nathan Flint had served as a private in Connecticut's Continental Army since 1775, however, he, like countless other late Loyalists, was distrustful of too much democracy. Nathan had come to the realization that "it was better to be ruled by one tyrant three thousand miles away rather than by three thousand tyrants one mile away." So, after the cessation of hostility Nathan decided to relocate the Flint family north of the border to British North America.
In August 1778, Nathan Flint sold the family gristmill and sawmill that had been constructed on the banks of the Skungamug River by his grandfather fifty-four years earlier, and the family began the difficult journey north to the British colony at Quebec, by way of the old invasion route along the Richelieu River." from "BILLA FLINT, King of Hastings County" by Armand P. La Barge, Kirby Books, 2015, pg. 12.1

Note: In effect, Harry gets the east half and James gets the west half.8 He "Combining the activities of rum-runner and bootlegger was a fairly common practice in eastern Ontario. At Belleville, for example, there were three major bootleggers, Doc Welbanks, Harry Ketcheson, and Harry Yanover. Both Wel- banks and Ketcheson were also rum-runners." from "Booze boats and billions", by C.W. (Claude William) Hunt, McClelland and Stewart, 1988, page 175. circa 1922 at Belleville, Hastings Co., Ontario.10 He Ketcheson owned a farm on the north side of the Belle- ville-Trenton road. This posed a problem as the Bay Bridge was located between the government dock, where Ketcheson picked up his load of Corby’s whisky, and the shoreline in front of Ketcheson’s farm where the whisky was unloaded. Most cruisers were too large to pass under the bridge. Eventually, Ketcheson found a boat with a low enough freeboard to pass safely under the bridge when fully loaded. The booze so transported was then stored in a specially constructed barn and later distributed to smaller bootleggers throughout Prince Edward and Hastings counties. The opp and, in particular, Naphan made many searches but were never able to locate the Trent Road farmer’s secret cache. But eventually, Ketcheson slipped up. He was driving along a lonely country road about midnight on June 25, 1924. In the back seat of his big sedan were three cases of Gooderham and Worts whisky, which he was taking to one of his small bootlegging customers. When Inspector Naphan spotted Ketcheson’s car, the bootlegger took off at top speed. In the ensuing chase, Naphan got alongside Ketcheson who refused to pull over. As the two vehicles careened along the narrow country road, the 280-pound Naphan turned the wheel over to Trenton Police Chief William Bain and leaped onto the running board of the speeding sedan. Not surprisingly, the bulky policeman sprained his ankle, and probably dented the running board.
