K.C.B. Corbett, Mrs. W.C. Webber, Jr., and Presqu'ile Provincial Park. In 1958 the Ministry of Lands & Forests expropriated private cottage properties at Presqu'ile, to make way for the establishment of Presqu'ile Provincial Park. These included three summer cottages of log construction, built in 1934 and located adjacent to each other near what is now the Presqu'ile Park Museum. The cottages were owned by Mrs. K. Denson, Brighton, Mrs. Sadie Corbett, Toronto, and the J.J. Brook Estate, Toronto, on behalf of Mrs. Blanche Brook. After expropriation, these individuals were permitted to retain the use of the cottages during their lifetime, subject to payment of rent which was to be on an annual basis. Mrs. Blanche Brook was deceased in 1967 and Mrs. Sadie Corbett in 1970. However, the heirs to Mrs. Brook and Mrs. Corbett, namely Mrs. W.G. Webber Jr., of Toronto and Col. K.C.B. Corbett, Toronto were permitted to continue use of the respective properties by the Ministry. It is understood that some time during 1973, following the annual payment of rent by Messrs. Webber and Corbett, their cheques were returned by the Ministry without comment. No furth word was received from the Ministry with respect to the disposition of rent or the future use of cottages. Col. Corbett contacted the Minister of Natural Resources, requesting clarification, who then suggested they need not take any particular action with respect to their new position. In June 1975, the Napanee office of the Ministry advised the Corbett and Webber families that they were required to vacate the properties by July 1st. It was further stated that they had deflated on rents for the previous two years. They were subsequently given an extension by the Napanee office to September 1, 1975, by which time they had taken steps to vacate the premises. Mrs. K. Denson, 78, is permitted continued use of her cottage until her death. However, it is understood that Mrs. Denson, a widow, lives alone and with the removal of her neighbours will be left almost entirely on her own in a remote section of the park. Naturally, she is concerned for her safety and security and, as a result, will be forced to give up her own summer home and be denied the quality of life in which she had looked forward to spending her final years. It is proposed that to provide a solution to Mrs. Denson's dilemma which is humane, just, and equitable, Mrs. W.G. Webber Jr., and Col. K.C.B. Corbett be permitted continued occupancy of their cottages until such time as Mrs. Denson may be deceased and that they continue to pay annual rent at the same rate as Mrs. Denson." per research by Susan Brose on Presqu'ile cottages and cottagers, Jan 2022. in 1958 at Presqu'ile Point, Northumberland Co., Ontario. William Atkinson, a contractor from early 1914, built a number of these cottages. Most of the lumber for these cottages came from the local saw mills. Harry Quick estimated he drew over 50% of this material. Many cottages on the Lakeshore were permanent structures. Some of the locals referred to them as Millionaires' Lane. In 1934 three pre- fab cabins built by Eaton's were erected by Dr. Clark, a local doctor who made house calls, the Corbett and the Brook families. They all had hardwood floors and a stone fireplace. The living room had an open ceiling. Double doors led into the glassed porch. They were characterized by natural woodwork and cast iron latches.
