Jacob I. Ockerman1,2,3,4
M, b. 1786, d. 1857
| Father | Jacobus Ackerman4 b. 15 Feb 1761, d. 1840 |
| Mother | Betje Belser4 b. c 1765 |
Jacob I. Ockerman was born in 1786 at Canada; Date 1786 per Memorial. Date 1783 & location Cda. per 1851 Census. Date 1786 & location Ont. per GEDCOM of Cheryl (Kempt) Taber, (ctaber@rogers.com) Oct 10 2016. Date 1786 & location Fredericksburgh, L&A, Ont per family tree of RuthAnnThomas61 on ancestry.ca, Sep 13 2018 - and name Jacob Ackerman.
Note: I will persistently use the name Ockerman for Jacob and his family. All the documentation for he and his family uses that spelling. I have agreed to document him in the context of the Ackerman tree - because it is there. It seems plausible that this man simply took the spelling Ockerman for some reason. (Dan Buchanan, Sep 13 2018.)1,2,5,4 He lived in 1808 at Fredericksburgh Twp., Lennox & Addington Co., Upper Canada; Assessment: Ackerman, Jacob; no land; 1 horse (http://www.sfredheritage.on.ca/1808Assessment.html)
Note: Could be referring to father Jocabus, but no land and 1 horuse smacks of a young single man. This fits with Jacob Ockerman just before showing up with Elisah Ames as a cooper in Meyers Creek and then marrying Phoebe Dunham in 1809. Darius and John Dunham are also in the 1808 Assessment list. Elisha Ames would marry Mary Ockerman (Ackerman) probably a sister of Jacob and James. Nobody has it this way that I have seen but this seems to be reasonable. John Hart is also there, father of Elizabeth Hart who married James Ackerman, assuming a brother of Jacob. Some speculation but lots of good circumstantial evidence. He lived in 1809 at Meyers Creek, Hastings Co., Upper Canada; "The same year (1809), Alexander Petrie came to live at the small community. He found the following persons living there at that time - "Commencing at the lowest part, there was CApt. John McIntosh, who kept a store; John Johnson, a saddler; Dr. Spareham; John Thomson, who had been in the King's Rangers; Peter Holmes, a carpenter, also of the King's Rangers; Mrs. Margaret Simpson, Innkeeper; Roswell Leavens, blacksmith; Amos, a cooper; Hugh Cunningham, the storekeeper at Mrs. Simpson's; Simon McNabb, a miller who lived across the river; Jacob Ockerman, a cooper; Benjamin Stone, a sawyer; William Maybee and Abraham Stimers." page 18 of The Rambling River, by Mary G. Plumpton, 1967
Note: The "Amos" mentioned here is likely Ames, who was a cooper. Notice that Jacob Ockerman is also a cooper and he would soon be at Cannifton. Mary Ockerman married Elisha Ames. Are they the same? He married Phoebe Dunham, daughter of John Dunham, on 17 July 1809 at Kingston, Frontenac Co., Upper Canada; DAte July 17 1809 & location Kingston per family tree of DavidAckerman45 on ancestry.ca, Sep 1 2018 - this record has the name as Ackerman. per GEDCOM of Cheryl (Kempt) Taber, (ctaber@rogers.com) Oct 10 2016.1,4 Jacob I. Ockerman lived in 1816 at Belleville, Hastings Co., Upper Canada; "Belleville had a population of 150 in 1816 and Cannifton had all of two houses - one, John Canniff, the other Jacob Ockerman's a cooper who had come from the mouth of the river to work for him." page 14 of The Rambling River, by Mary G. Plumpton, 1967.6 He lived in 1837 at Conc 3, Thurlow Twp., Hastings Co., Upper Canada; Statue Labour List 1837: Conc 3, Jacob Ockerman, Daniel Canniff, James McTaggart, Barnabus Nicholson, Abraham Canniff (pg 258 of The Rambling River, Mary G. Plumpton, 1967. before 1857 at Cannifton Cemetery, Cannifton, Hastings Co., Canada West.6 He died in 1857 at Thurlow Twp., Hastings Co., Canada West; Date 1857 per Memorial. Date 1857 per GEDCOM of Cheryl (Kempt) Taber, (ctaber@rogers.com) Oct 10 2016.1,5 He was buried in 1857 at Glenwood Cemetery, Picton, Prince Edward Co., Canada West; Memorial: (See Exhibit) Jacob Ockerman - 1786 - 1857; Eliza - his daughter - 1812 - 1893; He Husband; William Pope - 1814 - 1888; Their Children; Charlotte Pope - 1835 - 1849; George Pope - 1851 - 1857; Henry R. Pope - 1849 - 1909; Harriet Ward - his wife - 1851 - 1933; Their Daughter; Maude Eliza - 1880 - 1882 (Glenwood Cemetery, Picton, Section D, Aug 24 2003.)5
