She was united in marriage to Willet Austin Washburn on Sept. 8, 1875 and to this union were born five children. Fifty-nine years ago last February the Washburn family moved to Central Lake. Eight years later they took up a homestead 2 miles southwest of the village, cutting the logs and building their home there. They resided on this farm until Mr. Washburn passed away Nov. 20, 1920. Her father came from Canada to live with them and died at the age of 98. Mrs. Washburn was the last member of the several elder Washburn families who were pioneers in this vicinity. Those left to mourn the loss of their loved one are a son, George F. Washburn of Harbor Springs, and four daughters, Mrs. Sarah Margaret Dawson, Mrs. Flora Lancaster, Mrs. Nina Smith, and Mrs. Minnie Mathers, with whom she made her home, all resided in Central Lake, 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
