On his land petition of 1809, he states he is the son of the Widow Mary Wright of Kingston (now Hallowell). Further evidence is the land petitions of Sarah Wright Orser, Elizabeth Wright Dafoe, Phoebe Wright Georgen, Hannah Wright Youmans and Mary Wright Bartley. Sarah, Elizabeth and Phoebe all named their father as Samuel Wright, loyalist (who died sometime after the evacuation of New York and the arrival in Sorel in the fall of 1783).
