The American tourists would take a boat across Lake Ontario to Cobourg, and John would drive from Havelock to meet and bring them to stay at Belmontee Lodge. Emily would prepare meals for the 'Upstairs' and cabin guests, while the cottagers would prepare their own. He hunted deer.
In the winter Emily made quilts by hand and sold them . They sold chickens and eggs.
There were pigs, milk cows, horses, and fields to tend .
John made all his flat bottom boats and painted them .
Since they lived three or so miles from town, they needed their sleighs and wagons. They would make trips, always in the winter, to their family and friends in Sheffield Township.
The farm began to shrink as the family left home and John and Emily aged. Their daughter Sylvia remained at home. She and husband Bob continued running the resort, and Sylvia continued alone after Bob's death in 1966. In the mid 1980's Sylvia finally retired. Her son Rae is a realtor in Havelock and on the council.

Obituary: John Noah KING A highly esteemed resident of Belmont Township, John Noah KING, passed away in the Civic Hospital, Peterborough on Tuesday. While the deceased had not enjoyed the best of health for several years, he had the misfortune to fall on Sunday and fracture his hip and was taken to hospital. He was in his 82nd year. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Noah KING and was born in Belmont Township, not far from his farm where he had spent the rest of his entire life. (please note, he was born in Sheffield Township, Lennox and Addington County, Ontario. Besides farming, he operated a successful summer resort for many years. In religion he was an adherent of the United Church. His wife, the former Emily HINDER, predeceased him in 1958. Surviving are three daughters, (Sylvia) Mrs. Robert McCUTCHEON, Belmont, (Dorothy) Mrs. BARTON, Bancroft, and (Betty) Mrs Jack CARTWRIGHT of Peterboro, and one son, Lyle, of Belmont; also one sister, Mrs. Jas. TOMS, and two brothers, Horace and Albert, all of Belmont. There are 9 granchildren Funeral Services will be held from the B.A. Curtis Funeral Home on Friday conducted by Rev. John King.
