A cabin was built on Robert's property in the spring of 1836 not far from the present park office. The remains of the foundation can still be seen. When Robert Sr. died in 1855, his property was left to his wife, Elizabeth who sold the homestead in 1859 to their eldest son, Robert, for the sum of five shillings. The brick house that Robert and his wife, Mary, built north of the present part office burned in 1924 and a smaller house was built on part of the old foundation.
