     Calvin Pier was born in 1798 at Pierstown, Otsego Co., New York, U.S.A; Calvin Pier may be a son of John Pier and Phoebe Stevens. Both parents died around his birth in 1798 and Alva Stephens took him to Upper Canada with him in 1813, when he was only 15. The story specifically says they were cousins. He lived in Picton and the 1851 directory shows he was a hatter. That's what Alva was said to be initially, before he went farming in Athol Twp. Calvin Pier was married four times and I have only seen two daughters, by the first wife, Lydia Hill. Not sure about much of this - not many documents from that time period.
