Oscar Elnathan Dingman1

M, #17462, b. 8 August 1887, d. 1955

  • Birth*: 8 August 1887; Brighton Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario; Birth Reg'n.: Name: Oscar L. Nathan; Born: Aug 8 1887; Place: Brighton Twp.; Parents: Ostrom Dingman & Melissa Samis; Occ.: farmer; Inf.: Ostrom Dingman, Brighton Twp.; Reg'd.: Mar 19 1890; Dr. Mallory; Reg'r.: A. A. Becker
Middle Name: "I noticed on Austin's birth record that he was listed as "Oscar L. Nathan Dingman" His middle name was probably "Elnathan" which is a common old school name. He must have liked Austin better that Oscar!" per email from Sandy Wunder, Feb 21 2010.
Actually, both Austin and his brother Oscar had the same middle name and the Registrar had a heck of a time with it. Both Birth Registrations were corrected later and even then it is not clear what spelling they wanted. I expect the spelling that Sandy Wunder provides "Alnathan" is correct.
Date Aug 8 1887 & location Ont. rural per 1901 Census. Date per Burial. "Samuel Dingman: This is my great grandfather Samuel. He was married to Hannah M (last name unknown). One of his children was Jacob, who married Laura Dingman, she was a Dingman as well. They were married July 29th, 1865 in Cramahe Township, Ontario. She was the daughter of Garret Dingman and Ann (unkown). One of their children was Oscar Elnathan Dingman. Oscar had three wives. The first being Bertha Peters of New York State, USA. She died in childbirth, her other child was my grandmother, Lulla Hazel Dingman; Oscar's other wife was Clare Elford, she also died, then he finally married Flossy Towns. They lived in the area of Brighton, Ontario until his death in 1955." GenForum message by Linda Smeland, Sep 22, 2001
