  • Census: April 1861; Camden Twp., Lennox & Addington Co., Canada West; Age 55 at 1861 Census: Milligan, George, 55, b. USA, EM, farmer, married; Susan, 51, b. US, EM, married; Mahala, 23, b. CW, EM, single; Robert, 18, b. CW, single; Stewart, 14; Hester, 12; Mary Eliz., 3 (1861 Census: Camden Twp., Lennox & Addington Co., pg. 416 of 655, line 33 - ancestry.com)2
  • Residence: 6 December 1869; High Bluff, Presqu'ile Point, Northumberland Co., Ontario; List of Presqu'ile Landowners in1869 shows at the bottom, under the location "High Bluff", the name George Milligan with 78 6/10 acres. Also, the map called "Plan of Presqu'isle Penninsula" dated Dec 6 1869 shows Milligan Beach on the lake side near today's camp grounds. (These are found in the book "Presqu'ile" published 1994 by Bonnie Browne and Susan Brose, pgs 13 & 14 )9
  • Residence: 6 December 1869; Milligan's Beech, Presqu'ile Point, Northumberland Co., Ontario; "To the south-west of Presqu’ile lies High Bluff lsland, the other main limestone outcrop. A narrow sand beach formed about two miles in length and it became known as Milligan’s Beach, after George Milligan, who lived on the high bluff in 1869." from page 1 of "Presqu'ile" by Susan Brose and Bonnie Browne, 1994.
and in page 13 "A family by the name of Milligan lived in a log house on the Craig property, and this later housed the Sprung family."
Note: It does not appear as if George Milligan was at Presqu'ile much earlier than 1969, since he and his family are in Camden Twp. for the 1861 Census. There is a Peter Milligan and son Samuel, who are in the County or near Carrying Place in Murray, but not Presqu'ile. Of course, this means that perceptions re local history that Milligan's Beach was a known term at the time of the Speedy in 1804 are mistaken.9
