- Death*: 22 April 2024; Ontario; "Rose Ellery Obituary: Rose Ellery, May 26th, 1936 - April 22, 2024: Our beautiful Marilyn 'Rose' Marie Ellery (Cheer), passed away surrounded with the love of her five children, on Monday, April 22, 2024. Precious Mother to Jackie (James), Karen (Dan), Rick, Melanie (Ryan) and Ron (Angie). Much loved Grandmother to Lori, Travis (Sydney), Tarryn; Shannon (Nathan), Sarah (James) and Mike (Katelynn). Great-grandmother to Audrey, Claire, Sophie, Mason, Myles, Max, Hunter, Addi and Meyer.
Predeceased by Robert (Bob) Ellery. Survived by Sister, Sharon (Don) and predeceased by sisters, Muriel and Eleanor. Rose, as she was known to everyone, was born and raised in Brighton to parents Ralph and Viola Cheer.
Always a hard worker and active in Brighton, the community she loved, Rose would follow the 'bloom where you're planted' philosophy and did her very best to make it better for all. She served as Councillor in Municipal Government for 23 years, was a partner in business, worked in insurance and a medical clinic, all while raising her five children. After retiring Rose stayed connected with others as a member of PROBUS. Rose loved her home, the sunshine and being outside, gardening, dancing, sewing, painting, her precious dog Lily, and a glass (or two) of white wine. She was always ready to help out and volunteered for numerous charities, causes and committees. Some of those close to her heart:
Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke, Relay For Life, selling Daffodils in April, Proctor House Tours, Brighton Barn Theatre, Ghost Walks, Brighton History Book, Sand Parents, Recreation Committee, 'New To You', Rebekah's, and Communities in Bloom. Rose was instrumental as one of the first three people involved in creating Applefest, Brighton's annual Fall festival. On the 30th Anniversary she was honoured for her tireless involvement. Later, Rose was thrilled to have a park dedicated to her and her many contributions in the community. It's not lost on anyone who knew Rose: the original reducer, re-user, recycler, gardener and clothes line user; that she would leave this world on Earth Day. With her strong faith, Rose attended St. Paul's Anglican Church, was a member of the ACW, once served as Peoples Warden and she sang in the choir for more than 30 years. Above and beyond all and everything, Rose's family was, without question, number one. She made every holiday and gathering so special and would bake and cook and she loved to have everyone together. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rose's memory to St. Paul's Anglican Church or Community Care Northumberland and Meals on Wheels.
Please consider planting flowers or a tree to remember Rose. Our Mom, our Nana, our GG, our incomparable Rose, will live eternally in our hearts and our memories.
We love you, Mom." per Obituary of Rose Ellery, (https://www.tributearchive.com/obituaries/31281726/rose-ellery)4 - Burial*: 25 April 2024; Mount Hope Cemetery, Brighton, Northumberland Co., Ontario; per Obit.4

- Residence*: 4 April 2013; Brighton, Ontario; Lifetime Brighton Resident Rose Ellery Honored; Brighton, ON - At Tuesday night's Council meeting, Council members voted to approve a recommendation from Councilors Tom Rittwage and Mike Vandertoorn to name Brighton's newest park located at 2 Ontario Street after life time resident Rose Ellery. "Rose is a role model to anyone who might consider volunteering. She has worked tirelessly on many local initiatives, including being a founding member of Applefest, Communities in Bloom, the Brighton Ghost Walks, a sand parent with Probus and helped write the Brighton History book, to name a few" Councilor Rittwage stated. Councilor Vandertoorn added "Rose started on Council in December 1978 and left in 2003. Over the 23+ years on Council she set the bar high for many members of Council who sat with her and those that have followed her." A dedication will be held this spring to recognize the part in Rose Ellery's name." Media Release from Brighton Council, April 4, 2013.
