  • Death*: 8 August 1985; St. Joseph's Hospital, Peterborough, Ontario; "Ex-reeve dies; The contribution sof a man who dedicated a large part of his life to public office was recognised at the last meeting of Brighton Township council. Reeve Ken Ferguson, at the beginning of the meeting, said he had recently heard of the death of Reginald McCann, 74. The late Mr. McCann, said Ferguson, had occupied a prominent part in the public life of the township for some 35 years; he passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, Peterborough, on August 8 after a lengthy illness. Recapping his career, the reeve said that McCann had been deputy reeve of Brighton township from 1949 to 1951, and reeve from 1952 to 1954. He served as warden of the United Counties of Durham and Northumberland in 1952 and returned to pulbic service as a member of township council from 1969 to 1972. He served a further term as reeve from 1977 to 1979; in the latter year, he lost the election against Ferguson. In tribute to McCann his old friend and sometime antagonist, Ferguson requested a minute of silence. All present stood and joined in the tribute. McCann is survived by his wife Willa, daughter Ruth (Mrs. George McDonald) of Colborn, sons Howard of Codrington and Owen of Whitby. Also surviving are seven grandchildren. Services were held at the Weaver Funeral Home, Campbellford, on August 10, the Rev. F. R. Edmondson officiating. Interment took place at Bethel Cemetery, Rawdon Township. LAID TO REST.. Mrs. D. McCann...The funeral of the late Mrs. Daniel McCann took place yesterday[Aug 26] and was well attended. Rev. Geo. Worrell conducted the service in the absence of Rev. J. Simpson Trotter. The bearers were W.J.Brown, W. Bowen, A. Patterson, W. Nelson, C. Atkins, F. Greatrix. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful.
note; On same page of paper as obit is an article about Rev. J. Simpson Trotter, rector of Emmanuel Reformed Episcopal severing his connection with that congregation and leaving Belleville. Buried in Belleville Cemetary, in James Boyle plot D-11-7, age given on 1881census as 20 and on the 1891 census as 26, so even in those days they lied about their age.
