  • Residence: 1882; Russell, Manitoba; "I am pleased that my grandson, Joseph Ujfaluse, did some research and found you. Amelia King was a mystery - so we appreciate information about her. John D. Garnett and Amelia did not go to Michigan. They came to Manitoba and settled near Russell about 1882-1883. I have a copy of a letter which he wrote shortly before moving west. It was John D.'s brother Anthony who moved his family to St. Thomas, N. Dakota. In 1881 he and his six older children moved West. Then in 1883 his wife, Ann, and their four younger children came to St. Thomas. Two books which record Garnett histories are: "A Centrury of St. Thomas Times" 1880-1980, pages 99-101 and "Beneath the Long Grass". I think I have recorded man of the descendants of John D. and Margaret - as well as all of John D.'s and Amelia's - and I 've met and visited many of them. Very interesting! I am pleased that Joseph is interested in the family records. Perhaps he will keep them, too. Good luck with your research. My husband, Elgin Garnett, died in 1979. Emily B.
